House of Ruth Maryland Purchases Baltimore Building

House of Ruth Maryland (HRM), one of the nation’s most comprehensive domestic violence centers, has purchased a second location at 2521 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, Maryland that will allow them to expand their current operations while providing a more prominent position within the community.  MacKenzie Senior Vice President Karen S. Deeley represented the organization in the transaction, working with them to find the ideal space best suited for their needs.

Formerly home to the Baltimore Healthy Start program, the 2-story, 16,000 square foot building will serve as a community center for HRM.  This location will house their Training Institute, a program that provides training for service professionals, businesses, community groups, and others to educate them on domestic violence, the Gateway Project, a program that works with abusers to acknowledge the ways they may have been victimized and give them the tools they need to move beyond that and to engage in healthy relationships, and also accept donations for their thrift shop.  The group’s current Baltimore location will remain in operation.

“It has been an honor and pleasure to work with the House of Ruth in finding a space that meets their requirements and that allows them the community outreach necessary to support their mission,” stated Deeley.

Founded in 1977, HRM leads the fight to end violence against women and their children by confronting the attitudes, behaviors, and systems that perpetuate it, and by providing victims with the services necessary to rebuild their lives safely and free of fear.  Today, the organization has nearly 100 staff members and a voluntary leadership that consists of a 30 member Board of Directors.

“As we approach our 40th anniversary this summer, we felt it was important to continue growing our platform in a way that would allow us to better serve the community and those in need,” stated Sandi Timmins, Executive Director of House of Ruth Maryland.  “This new location provides not only the structural needs for additional programs, but also the expanded visibility that will help us achieve our vision that one day, every woman in Maryland will be safe in her own home.”
