RK&K Selects MacKenzie Contracting for New Headquarter Buildout

Baltimore engineering firm RK&K has selected MacKenzie Contracting Company, LLC to complete the total renovation and buildout of their new 116,000 square foot headquarter location in Baltimore City.  Located at The Candler Building, 111 Market Place in the heart of downtown Baltimore’s harbor, the space comprises two, 58,000 square foot floors.  MacKenzie Contracting’s Senior Vice President of Operations Scott Albright will oversee the project.

Collaborating with RK&K since late 2014, MacKenzie Contracting will be responsible for the complete demolition of the existing space and new buildout. Project fit-out to include office space and modular furniture for approximately 500 employees, three large training rooms with integral kitchen, upgrades to common areas, and state-of-the-art lighting and energy efficient systems.  RK&K brand-specific items representing their work as civil engineers will be integrated into the overall design of the space; gabion baskets, concrete walkways, reception area, and core display, reclaimed wood on ceilings and walls, metal wall panels, back-lit rebar walls, and additional accents such as utility vault covers and hard hats.

“We are honored that RK&K selected MacKenzie Contracting to be their construction manager and excited to be part of one of the largest renovation projects that the City has seen in years,” stated Marty Copsey, President of MacKenzie Contracting.

Representing one of Baltimore City’s largest office renovations in nearly 10 years, demolition has begun on the space that was once home to Constellation Energy Group, Inc. Constellation recently relocated their headquarter operations to the newly developed Exelon Building at Harbor Point.

This new location for RK&K represents the consolidation of three of their Baltimore offices into one, providing the opportunity to bring everyone together again and positioning the firm conveniently to their workforce.

“We have enjoyed working with RK&K over the past two years, advising them on space options and the overall buildout process,” stated Joe Versey, MacKenzie Contracting’s Vice President of Business Development.  “We are honored to have the opportunity to see the project through to completion.”
